Intermittent fasting for a longer life

We all know that fad diets don’t work and the key to health is about making good choices! Our bodies are complex and magnificent machines and we need to understand how our bodies use nutrients from food and remove waste in order to ensure we are functioning at our best.

There is a massive amount of science supporting longevity through the process of intermittent fasting, where you fast for one day a week or fortnight. It’s the best way to maximise life span and reduce body fat and has been used for thousands of years by different cultures around the world.

It doesn’t matter how clean your diet is, your body still needs to eliminate things and it needs time to do that. That is where fasting comes into it, giving the body time to eliminate and rejuvenate without digesting food.

Intermittent fasting mimics the eating habits of our ancestors, who did not have access to grocery stores or food around the clock. They would cycle through periods of feast and famine, and modern research shows this cycling produces a number of biochemical benefits.

Fasting also promotes human growth hormone (HGH) production known as “the hunger hormone”.  Research has shown fasting can raise HGH by as much as 1,300 percent in women, and 2,000 percent in men, which plays an important part in health and slowing the ageing process. HGH is also a fat-burning hormone, which helps explain why fasting is so effective for weight loss

As we live in a world of convenient food choices available anytime and anywhere, our hunger indicators are not always accurate! Fasting for a day will help you long term to recognise hunger as opposed to thirst, as opposed to eating because food is available! You can also continue your day as normal, you may even feel like you have more energy!
