About the Authors - Matt & Monica

Matt Thom is one of Australia’s leading health & fitness professionals, representing Australia at an international level as a fitness competitor in the World Fitness Federation Universe Championships, he won 4 world titles in Pairs Fitness with wife Monica. The only husband & wife team ever to win a World Fitness Title and 4 years running!  With a Degree in Human Movement, he has worked in the industry for the past 20 years as a personal trainer, corporate trainer, presenter, motivational speaker, educator and fitness consultant. He is co-founder of Fitness Kick @ Flemington, Melbourne’s first specialized fitness training centre, winner of 2007, 2008 & 2009 Personal Training Business of the Year. The other half of this dynamic duo is Matt’s wife Monica.  She is Australia’s leading Fitness Athlete and holds the 2002, 2003, and 2006 Ms Fitness Universe Title, having won these prestigious titles at the World Fitness Federation Universe Championships in Europe. Monica started her fitness career at age 4 as a successful gymnast and competed until age 21 wining numerous state and national titles.  She then moved into Fitness Competitions, winning her 1st AUS competition in 1999 with an impressive acrobatic routine. She is best known for her Lara Croft inspired fitness routine in 2002.

Monica also holds the 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 World Fitness Pairs Title at the WFF Fitness Universe with her husband, Matt. They both won the AUS Fairfax Sports Stars of the Year award in 2003.

Monica has over 20 years’ experience in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, gymnastics coach, fitness journalist, motivational speaker, kickboxing instructor, yoga teacher and is co-owner of award winning Fitness Kick @ Flemington, which has over 200 personal training clients. I embarked on what is now a life changing experience, the 84 day Body Challenge.  I read all 3 of Matt and Monica’s books. The first couple of weeks were not easy, but I was determined to stick with it.  Every week became easier as the Kilos kept dropping and my body was changing.   I’ve tried every diet that has been around since the eighties and they were all the same, I was always hungry and looking for the next meal. I never had energy to work out and had to push myself to move.

Just wanted to say a massive thanks for writing the 84 day body challenge.

I was introduced to it by a friend & followed it to the letter and quite simply it has changed my life.

Ive dropped about 15 kgs, lost 8 inches off my waist, 17cm off my chest and most importantly changed some very destructive eating/drinking habits. The most rewarding thing for me is that I have inspired a number of my colleagues to start the program as well - I work in the mines in remote north west WA. I cant begin to tell you how bloody proud of myself I am.

Hey Monica & Matt, I am 4 weeks into your 12 week challenge:-) I am down about 5-6kg so far, and it has been quite easy compared to other things I have done. The vitamins did cost a lot, but compared to the amount of alcohol I would drink, I think I have saved money :-). Alkaline greens powder!!!!! the best thing ever invented, this will be a part of every day, how much better do you feel with that. One thing I keep saying to myself is "If Monica can eat Broccoli on pizza, I can eat it on any meal I cook! " and have eaten it most nights over the last 4 weeks. Now those breakfast muffins you make, I take to work most days, I replace the strawberries with blue berries and also put coconut in. I have also had to teach about 6 people how to make them. I have forwarded your web site on to quite a few people too, at the end of the 12 weeks I will update my photo with a training one and include a link to your books as they are why I am doing so well.

Yesterday I successfully completed the 84 Day Body Challenge & I wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge with me!

Having always been a fairly fit and sporty girl, I found myself feeling a little dissatisfied with my body shape & wanting to change it, but never really knowing how. I never put a plan in place to achieve what I dreamt of. Then I discovered your concept after a friend of mine told me about it (she was currently doing the 84 DBC). I really was inspired by the way she had changed her life & body; she was so fit & happy, and she had that 'sparkle'. And so I began my plan! I needed to change myself too!

I was amazed how the challenge made me feel so healthy & energetic; all within the first 2 weeks! I looked forward to each new day & really loved the training. Training every day of the week was new to me, & I enjoyed it! I learnt how to fuel my body correctly, and how to include alkaline food sources in my meals. I saw the results almost instantly and this gave me great motivation to keep going!

My energy level was awesome, and continued to grow throughout the weeks. I could train harder and harder as I got stronger and more fit. I found that planning the week ahead in terms of food & exercise was an important key. I was accountable to my plan and to my goals! I took on the challenge with a friend of mine, and this was also a vital key to my success.

Doing the 84 DBC over the Christmas/New Year period was tough at times, however, I knew what I was doing would be so much more beneficial for me that the usual silly-season antics! I completed many of my Fusion workouts at home in the garage which saved on time. The final 2 weeks I pushed hard and brought it home strong. I am proud that I have now achieved what I had dreamt of for so long, and I know that I will maintain my body with the knowledge you have given me. It essentially is a new way to live my life & I absolutely LOVE it! I am so completely happy with my new life. The 84 Day Body Challenge is what I had been searching for, and today is the first day of the maintenance plan for life!!

Initially I began the 84 day body challenge to learn how to eat healthy and loose weight and transform my body. I have since come to realise that it has transformed me in so many other ways – not only body, but mind and soul! I have always been overweight for the majority of my life, and I wanted and needed to make a change – not repeat the same cycle that I was doomed to, since my family has a long history of heart disease and diabetes. Walking into FK@F was the best decision I took to shake things up in my life and do something positive about my weight. The 84 day body challenge has only re-affirmed that decision. I found it to be a very practical program which gave me step-by-step instructions on diet and exercise that were easy to follow every week. Doing various fusion workouts and having so many different options for cardio and weight training meant it did not get repetitive.
